Region - The smiles and excitement at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton counteracted the damp and dreary weather the morning of Aug. 15, as the Fourth Annual Karyn Polito Charity Golf Tournament got underway.
According to State Rep. Karyn E. Polito, R-Shrewsbury, this year's tournament raised over $20,000. The Westborough Food Pantry and Shrewsbury's Youth and Family Services, a nonprofit social services agency, were presented with checks at a reception and awards dinner after the tournament. At the event, Polito thanked all contributors and explained how the funds raised through the tournament are used by the two organizations.
"I am overwhelmed by the generosity of so many individuals and businesses and so pleased that we can assist our two local charities again this year," Polito said. "Last year the Westborough Food Pantry was able to purchase an additional freezer and increase farm stand vouchers for the 50 families they serve. The Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services [used the donation] to add an after-school program for at-risk youth in Shrewsbury."
In its four years, the tournament has raised and distributed over $70,000 to the two organizations.
One hundred fifty golfers participated in the tournament. Trophy winners were: first place - the Jasset Foursome (12 under par), which consisted of Phil Jasset, Douglas A. Jasset, Douglas B. Jasset and Brian Jasset; and second place – the threesome of Jim Lennon, Tom Choate and Tom Marchand. The closest-to-the-pin award went to Ken Lynds for the men and Debbie Capalbo for the women. The longest-drive award went to Bob Frazier for the men and Lexi Singh for the women.
Major sponsors were Central One Federal Credit Union, J.A. Polito and Sons, Polito Development, and Wheelabrator Technologies. Corporate sponsors included Carlin, Charron and Rosen, LLP, Coca Cola Bottling of New England, Dunkin' Donuts of Shrewsbury, E.L. Harvey and Sons, Ellsmere Investment Company, TD BankNorth, Massachusetts Electric, Sunshine Sign and Westborough Bank.
