Making Voting Fashionable

The Shrewsbury League of Women Voters and Senator Edward Augustus announce Make Voting Fashionable! Tuesday, May 2, in Shrewsbury, an important Election Day event.
   Make Voting Fashionable,a live auction item at last month's Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services Gala, was auctioned off to raise money for a good cause and to raise voter awareness on Election Day. Donated by the Shrewsbury League, Senator Augustus, A Perfect Limo, and the 1790 House Restaurant, this auction item will make its statement on Tuesday, May 2, as Shrewsbury residents go to the polls.
   Augustus, chairman of the Massachusetts Election Laws Committee, will pick up the auction winners, several members of the Shrewsbury League of Women Voters, in a limousine coach courtesy of a Perfect Limo and take them to the polls to vote. After voting, the group will head to the Artemus Ward House for a photo at 1 p.m., topping off the day's events with lunch at the 1790 House restaurant.
   The auction item included a gift basket featuring rhinestone VOTE pins, a signature piece of jewelry worn by members the League of Women Voters across the United States, several books on patriotism donated by Barnes and Nobles bookstore, and patriotic beach towels embroidered with LWV supporting democracy since 1920.
   The Massachusetts League of Women Voters and Senator Augustus have been working diligently to improve voting measures in the State through legislative efforts with the Empowering Voters Project. Locally, the Shrewsbury League has hosted an Election Laws Committee hearing at SHS and held voter registration days for high school seniors.Make Voting Fashionable is an extension of the efforts to raise voter awareness and increase voter turnout.
